New Years Resolution - Drawdown Kitchen: Help Save the Earth Through Reducing Food Waste

The choices we make in the kitchen, from what we eat to what we do with the waste we leave behind, have broad implications on the climate and ecology of the Earth. Using Paul Hawken’s inspired book, Drawdown, as a guide, participants will explore the climatic impacts of agriculture and learn how our dietary selections can reverse global warming, support our local farming community, and cultivate a healthy body.

Topics covered include:

•GHG emissions and other ecological impacts from agriculture globally and in the US
•Planetary and health benefits of a plant-rich diet
•Basic understanding and benefits of regenerative, conservation, and organic/biodynamic agriculture
•Food waste- globally, in the US, and in our homes and tips for its reduction
• Home composting

In partnership with Rhinebeck Village’s Climate Smart Community Task Force, presented by CSC Task Force members Matt Stinchcomb and Corinna Borden.

Rhinebeck High School Climate Strike

Students at Rhinebeck Public High School walk out in protest, as part of a global call for action against climate change.

Scout Pronto Breslin, a member of our CSC Task Force, organized the walk-out, along with other members of her high school’s Environmental Club. Mayor Bassett spoke at the event, which was at the municipally-owned Lions Mini Park in Rhinebeck Village. There was then a march throughout the village.

Bike-to-School Day

Please fill out this interest form so we can be in touch as we firm up plans.

We’d planned a Spring 2020 Bike-to-School Day but COVID-19 threw a wrench into our wheel.

In 2019, we did a handful of Bike to School Days. Liz Mazzarella organized a big one in April 2019, starting at Lions Mini Park.

Please do reach out and let us know if you’d like to be involved.
