Big Night: Amphibian Migration & Road Crossing

UPDATE: Our Big Night event happened on Saturday March 26. Unfortunately, the weather did not provide ideal conditions. BUT, we thank everyone who did come out and big thanks to Rhinebeck Police and Bob Wyant, Town Highway Superintendent for their support. If more rainy warm night are in our future this spring, please read on below to go out and see if you can spot any crossings.

Be Part of this Annual Event to Help Amphibians Safely Cross the Road to their Woodland Pools!

This year, Climate Smart Rhinebeck is joining with Winnakee Land Trust to promote Big Night and get Rhinebeckers involved. On the first warm, rainy night in March, you will head out shortly after sunset and stay as long as you can. Using flashlights, you will watch for and keep count of the amphibians you see, carefully helping them cross safely across the road. Afterwards, you can submit your data to us and we’ll compile it all to send to the DEC.
